Energy Transition. The Slovak Way.

This article explores Slovakia’s evolving role in the European energy transition, sparked by the question: “Does Slovakia share the same priorities as Germany?”, a friend in my LinkedIn-Community asked.

Once considered a struggling post-socialist state, Slovakia has become a quietly progressive player in renewable energy, particularly in solar power and EV infrastructure. While wind energy remains politically and institutionally blocked, the country shows rapid growth in photovoltaics and charging networks, driven by EU support and pragmatic policy incentives.⁣

The analysis contrasts Slovakia’s approach with Germany’s regarding the question above. It closes by examining Slovakia’s recent announcement to phase out renewable subsidies by 2026 and raises a strategic question: Could this lean, less-subsidized market still present opportunities for agile investors and startups?
